Drug Uses
Lexapro is used in the treatment depression. However, it may also be used to cure social anxiety disorder, panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
How it is taken
Lexapro comes in both a tablet form as well as a liquid form. The general dosage is 1 tablet per day. The best way to use the drug is as recommended by your doctor.
Missed Dosage
If you miss a dose of Lexapro then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Overdose
Some of the typical symptoms of Lexapro are nausea, vomiting, tremor, drowsiness, dizziness, sweating, and a fast heartbeat. Seek medical attention immediately if you suspect an overdose.
Warnings/Precautions
Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances, have liver or kidney disease, suffer form seizures, or from mania or have suicidal thoughts.
You must not take if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or are taking with citalopram (Celexa).
If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using Lexapro and contact your doctor immediately. Lexapro is in the FDA pregnancy category C.
It is unknown whether is Lexapro secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the common side effects of are abdominal/stomach pain, cough, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, unusual tiredness. dry mouth, headache, increased sweating, nausea/vomiting, constipation, anxiety, an irregular heartbeat or pulse, low blood pressure (dizziness, weakness), high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision), or chills or fever. Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.
Other severe side effects include unusual weight loss or gain, palpitations, agitation, trouble sleeping, tremor, dizziness, fainting, mood changes, slowed movements, difficulty urinating, decreased sex drive, and drowsiness, seizures, mental problems, fever, muscle aches, yellowing of the eyes or skin, allergic reaction (trouble breathing, rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness).
You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
